Sump pump installation cost in Columbus
A sump job can be a one-hour pump swap or a new basin cut into the floor with a backup system. The price follows the work.

About these numbers: they are planning ranges for central Ohio homes, not quotes. Your price comes from an inspection of your basement and is given in writing before work starts.
Planning ranges
| Work | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Replace the pump in an existing basin | $450 – $1,100 |
| New basin, pump and discharge line | $1,200 – $2,800 |
| Battery backup system added | $800 – $1,800 |
| New check valve or discharge rerouting | $200 – $600 |
| Sealed lid on an open basin | $100 – $300 |
What sets the price
- Is there a basin already? Cutting a new pit means saw work, digging, stone and concrete.
- The pump. Cast-iron pumps rated for continuous duty cost more than light plastic units and usually last longer in a busy pit.
- The discharge run. How far the pipe goes and where it can legally end.
- Backup. Battery systems vary by pump capacity and battery size.
- Plumbing ties. Any connection to a sewer or drain line is licensed plumbing work, priced separately.
When to replace instead of repair
A pump that hums but doesn't move water, runs without stopping, or has needed a float freed more than once is near the end. Replacing it on a dry day costs the same as replacing it in a storm, minus the damage.
Questions
How long does installation take?
A swap takes an hour or two. A new basin is usually a day.
Do you install water-powered backups?
Some backups run on household water pressure and need a plumbing connection. Where that applies, a licensed plumber does the connection.
Is a battery backup worth the cost?
In a finished basement or a pit that fills fast in storms, usually yes.
